The Untapped Workforce: Giving Second Chances a Chance

In 2019, over 35,000 individuals will re-enter the Missouri workforce from Federal, State and Local prisons. Statistics show a 27% recidivism rate for those who hold a job versus 72% for those who do not. We’ll examine the Risk/Rewards associated with hiring such individuals.
The Speakers:
Bill Biermann
Mr. Bill Biermann is the Director for the Transformative Workforce Academy (TWA) at his Alma Mater, Saint Louis University. Utilizing his business background, Bill builds a business case for Second Chance individuals by reaching out directly to Employers and Employer related Associations. TWA also performs Workforce readiness at various Missouri Department of Corrections Facilities.
Fr. Chris Collins
Christopher Collins, SJ is the Assistant to the President for Mission and Identity at Saint Louis University. He provides executive-level leadership for fostering and promoting SLU’s Catholic and Jesuit identity. He works to insure that the mission and core values – as well as the traditions of Catholic, Jesuit higher education are fully integrated into everything Saint Louis University does. His research and teaching are in the areas of Systematic Theology and Spirituality. His publications include The Word Made Love: The Dialogical Theology of Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI (Liturgical Press, 2013) and Three Moments of the Day: Praying with the Heart of Jesus (Ave Maria Press, 2014). He has published articles in America, Review for Religious and The New Jesuit Review. He regularly gives retreats around the country based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Fr. Collins is also the Chair of the Board of the Apostleship of Prayer for the United States.
